International Womens Day celebrations at Lotiaboni Lachmanpur and Banasuria Panchayats

A Joint initiative with Lafarge India

The day was celebrated through a sensitization workshop organized in the Communion Hall of Shamayita Math from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is an
initiative to provide an opportunity for the rural women residing in Lotiaboni, Banasuria and Lachmanpur Panchayat of Gangajalghati Block to realize that -
she can be a change-agent of the society.

The Participants included:
a) Mothers- 26 numbers from the model ICDS centres under “Hamara Swasth”project.
b) Anganwadi Workers-5 No. and Anganwadi Helpers- 3 No.
c) Self Help Group women-33 no. from villages of Barabaid, Benagari, Deuli, Bharadih and Kenthulia.
d) Lady school teachers- 7 No. of local schools

A rally was organized from the office of the BDO (Gangajaghati) in Amarkanan to the campus of Shamayita Math- a distance of more than one kilometer. A collection of sayings and messages on ‘Women empowerment’ was displayed in placards held by the women. Poems inspiring women to come out of their shaky world was recited all along the way by local lady school teachers and Lady Govt. officers who also participated in the rally.

Presentation on nutrition : Few videos produced by Family and Child Welfare department were presented by the CDPO on breast feeding, infant feeding, balanced diet, need for animal protein, was presented before the women.

Skit/Short play : A skit on Child marriage , titled “My honour, my right” was presented by the students of Lachmanpur High School. Being in local dialect , the theme of the drama was well appreciated by the women.

Presentation on Rastriya Bal Swasth Karyakram (RBSK) : A presentation on the different symptoms of the diseases of the children which can be treated and cured free of cost under RBSK scheme of Government. Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is an important initiative aiming at early identification and early intervention for children from birth to 18 years to cover 4 ‘D’s viz. Defects at birth, Deficiencies, Diseases, Development delays including disability.

Awareness on rights related to women : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) of Bankura District Court delivered a speech on how the DLSA can serve the underprivileged (specially the women and children), including SC/ST free of cost. The rights which can preserve the honour of women was also discussed.
